Cospo Discusses Cooperation with Vietnam's National Innovation Center and Startup Ecosystem

The Korea Startup Forum (Chairman Sang-Woo Han, hereinafter referred to as KOSPO) announced on the 12th that it had discussed cooperation plans between the Vietnam National Innovation Center (NIC) and the Korean-Vietnamese startup ecosystem.

The meeting took place on the 11th at Maru 180 in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and discussed ways to expand exchanges between Korean and Vietnamese startups and expand their global ecosystems. Participants included Choi Ji-young, Executive Director of KOSPO; Lee Hyeon-jae, Chairman of KOSPO's Foreign Policy Committee (CEO of Yes Future); and Vu Quoc Huy, Director of the NIC Center.

As key support organizations representing startups in both countries, KOSPO and NIC focused their discussions on the characteristics of each country's ecosystem and potential for cooperation. NIC expressed interest in Korea's startup support policies, networking programs, and the current state of global expansion support, while KOSPO introduced key programs such as the global startup festival "COMEUP" and "KOSPO Business Trip." Furthermore, they shared a local expansion model for Korean startups, highlighting "VIVISA," a platform targeting international students and workers, as a case study of their entry into the Vietnamese market.

NIC announced that it plans to propose future collaboration programs for Korean startups and actively encourage Korean companies to participate in events and programs held in the country.

This cooperation discussion was particularly significant because it coincided with the summit between President Yoon Seok-yeol and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Cham, held on the same day. The NIC visited Korea as part of the delegation for the Korea-Vietnam summit and reportedly directly requested a meeting with Cospo during the summit.

Choi Ji-young, Executive Director of KOSPO, said, “The exchange with NIC is part of KOSPO’s goal of expanding its global startup network, and we expect this to lead to practical joint programs in the future.” She added, “We will establish a bridgehead for entering the ASEAN market, including Vietnam, and build a virtuous ecosystem that attracts overseas startups to Korea.”
