Global biopharmaceutical company BioApp (CEO Eun-ju Son) announced on the 12th that it was selected as a development company for the 'Green Vaccine Technology-Based Livestock Infectious Disease Rapid Response Platform Development Project' hosted by Pohang Techno Park.
This project aims to build a vaccine platform capable of rapidly responding to major livestock infectious diseases, such as African Swine Fever (ASF), utilizing plant-based vaccine technology (Green Vaccine). A total of KRW 800 million will be invested, of which KRW 600 million will be supported by local government subsidies and KRW 200 million by private sector contributions. The project period ends on December 31, 2026.
African swine fever (ASF) and classical swine fever (CSF) are major infectious diseases that have a devastating impact on the global pig industry, and preventing their spread and developing effective vaccines are considered essential tasks.
Through this project, BioApp plans to focus on developing an ASF vaccine that ensures both safety and efficacy by leveraging its plant-based vaccine platform technology. The company already launched the "CSF Green Vaccine," developed entirely with domestic technology, in 2021 and plans to actively leverage the clinical data and development experience acquired at that time for the development of this ASF vaccine.
According to the company, BioApp has established a group of 14 antigen candidates capable of responding to the ASF virus through a previous research project by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and has secured empirical data through experiments on defense efficacy in pigs, thereby laying the foundation for vaccine development.
A BioApp official said, “Based on the existing antigen bank and empirical data, we will be able to accelerate the development of the ASF green vaccine,” and added, “Through this project, we will gradually advance to the development of a vaccine prototype suitable for domestic clinical trial approval and verification of a commercialization strategy.”
