New O2O service Poong makes buying pets easier and less worrisome

Startup Madmade has launched its new O2O pet app named Poong, which means to cuddle, or hug in Korean.

Poong sells pets to owners looking to have a new best friend, while also making sure that pets are going to a good home. Sales involve a stringent vetting (no pun intended) process that includes close checking of documents, face-to-face interviews and inspection of properties — all to give peace of mind to both the breeder and new owner.

In addition to this, the manager in charge of the sale will pick up the animal themselves and deliver it directly to the buyer. Madmade keeps the payment on hold for 15 days as a way of preventing any scammers.

The idea for Poong was the result of trying to improve the problem of ‘puppy factories’ which became a big issue in Korea last year after the cruel practice was highlighted on TV. Madmade aims to create an optimized service that helps both buyers and sellers make transactions without having to worry.

Poong is just the start of Madmade’s plans to release 8 different types of services that offer solutions for pet owners. The startup received funding from incubator Neoply in May this year which it has used to set up an environment to develop more stable services.

“We launched Poong to offer a reliable service, so those who hope to become pet owners can welcome their new family without having to worry,” says CEO Lee Dae-eun. “We plan to provide top service from a team with over 16 years’ experience with pets, and look forward to everyone’s interest.”
