Smartstudy has been awarded YouTube’s ‘Gold Play Button’ after gaining more than one million subscribers in just a year and a half.

The startup’s YouTube channel Pinkfong! Kids’ Songs & Stories has taken off, not just in Korea, but across the globe with its songs and educational videos for young kids. Its English channel, which has been regularly uploading kids content since June 2015, recently surpassed one million subscribers.

The brand also has separate Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Spanish channels, with a combined total of 1.6 million subscribers. All up, the view count for all five channels is more than 1.5 billion. Pinkfong videos have been especially popular in the United States with 31% of views and 52% of profits coming from the US.

Pinkfong, also available as an app, finally began to take off in November 2011 with its ‘shark family‘ series — popular thanks to the catchy and easy to follow melodies. (Check out the Christmas sharks below!) Pinkfong’s 2016 compilation also reached the number one spot in Korea.

“All of Pinkfong’s content is produced in English first and then localized into other languages such as Korean, Chinese and Spanish. We plan to strengthen our position in the global market by localizing content in more languages including Russian and Hindi,” said the company’s US representative Yeonbin Jeong.

Smartstudy was founded in 2010 and has developed several other mobile educational and kids platforms, along with a number of camera, webtoon and game apps over the years.
