인공지능(AI) 기반 데이터 및 언어 솔루션 전문 기업 플리토(대표 이정수)는 지난 9월 18일부터 21일까지 부산 영상산업센터 일대에서 열린 제30회 부산국제영화제 ‘포럼 비프(Forum BIFF)’ 전 일정에 AI 동시통역 솔루션을 제공했다고 29일 밝혔다.
‘포럼 비프’는 부산국제영화제 지식영화연구소가 주최하는 행사로, 영화 산업의 현안과 미래를 주제로 국내외 영화계 전문가들이 참여해 토론을 진행하는 지식 교류의 장이다. 올해는 “다시, 아시아영화의 길을 묻다”를 주제로 총 4개 섹션, 9개 세션이 운영되었으며, 중국 지아장커 감독과 한국 민규동 감독이 기조 발제자로 참여했다.
플리토는 이번 행사에서 자사의 AI 기반 동시통역 솔루션 ‘라이브 트랜스레이션(Live Translation)’을 통해 한국어, 영어, 중국어, 일본어 등 4개 언어로 연사 발언 및 토론 내용을 실시간 번역해 제공했다. 번역된 내용은 무대 스크린에 송출되었으며, 패널 토크 세션에서는 각 연사에게 태블릿을 제공해 언어 장벽을 최소화하고 원활한 토론 진행을 지원했다. 청중들도 QR코드를 통해 개인 디바이스로 실시간 번역 내용을 확인할 수 있었다.
이번 ‘포럼 비프’는 부산국제영화제 개최 30주년을 맞아 AI 동시통역 솔루션이 공식적으로 도입된 첫 사례다. 기존 통역 인력 중심의 지원 체계를 보완하면서, 영화제 학술 행사의 글로벌 확장 가능성을 보여줬다는 점에서 긍정적인 평가를 받았다. 현장 참석자들과 국내외 영화 관계자들 사이에서는 향후 유사 행사 및 산업 전반에서의 활용 기대감도 제기됐다.
