엘앤에프가 지난 10일 SK온과 LFP 양극재 공급을 위한 업무협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.
이병희 엘앤에프 최고운영책임자(COO)는 “최근 국내 주요 배터리 업체들과의 업무협약 체결을 시작으로 향후 수요를 면밀하게 검토하고 있다” 면서 “고객사들과 구체적인 물량을 확정해 중장기 공급계약을 추진하겠다”고 밝혔다.

전기차 시장의 수요 둔화, 미-중 갈등 등 불안한 국제 정세 속에서도 이처럼 빠르게 LFP 양극재 사업을 추진할 수 있는 이유는 중저가EV 및 에너지저장장치(ESS)용 LFP 양극재의 수요가 급증하고 있기 때문이다.
엘앤에프 관계자는 “미국의 세금 및 지출법안(One Big Beautiful Bill, OBBB)이 통과됨에 따라 일부 불확실성이 해소되고, AI 데이터센터 급증 및 풍력 등 친환경 에너지 설비 증가에 따른 ESS 수요 확대 등으로 배터리 셀 업체들의 움직임이 빨라지고 있다” 면서 “이번 업무협약은 급증하는 LFP 양극재 수요에 선제적으로 대응하기 위하여 배터리 업체들이 미리 당사의 LFP 양극재 생산 라인을 확보하려는 움직임으로 볼 수 있다”고 밝혔다.
