자율주행 기술 전문기업 오토노머스에이투지(대표 한지형, 이하 에이투지)가 일본의 종합상사 가네마쯔 주식회사(이하 가네마쯔)와 자율주행 기술의 공동 사업화를 위한 양해각서(MOU)를 체결하고, 일본 시장 진출을 본격화한다고 5일 밝혔다.
이번 협약은 자율주행 기술의 현지 실증 및 상용화 기반을 마련하기 위한 것으로, 양사는 ▲에이투지 기술의 일본 도입 및 실증 추진 ▲현지 인증 및 법규 대응 ▲합작법인(JV) 설립 검토 등의 협력 항목에 합의했다. 가네마쯔는 일본 내 영업 및 제도 기반 확보를, 에이투지는 기술 적용 및 실무 협력을 각각 맡는다.
가네마쯔는 1889년 설립된 일본의 대표 종합상사로, 모빌리티, 항공·우주, ICT, 전자, 식품, 소재 산업 등 다양한 영역에서 글로벌 사업을 운영하고 있다. 최근에는 첨단 기술 기반의 사회문제 해결을 주요 전략으로 삼고 있다.
일본은 고령화와 지역 인구 감소로 인해 교통 서비스 유지에 어려움을 겪고 있으며, 이에 따라 자율주행 기술에 대한 수요가 높아지고 있다. 특히 2023년 도로교통법 개정을 통해 조건부 완전 무인운행이 가능한 레벨4 자율주행이 허용되면서 제도적 기반이 마련된 상태다. 양사는 이러한 환경을 바탕으로, 자율주행을 활용한 지역 교통 서비스 개선과 인력 부족 대응 등 사회적 과제 해결에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
에이투지는 현재까지 국내 13개 지역에서 자율주행차 55대를 운행하며 누적 주행거리 약 68만km를 기록하고 있다. 싱가포르, 아랍에미리트 등에서도 국가 단위 프로젝트를 수행하며 기술력을 검증받았고, 글로벌 기업과의 협업을 통해 해외 진출도 확대 중이다. 또한, 2024년 미국 시장조사기관 가이드하우스 인사이트가 발표한 글로벌 자율주행 기술 기업 순위에서 한국 기업 중 유일하게 11위에 오르며 경쟁력을 인정받았다.
에이투지 한지형 대표는 “가네마쯔와의 협력은 일본 내 자율주행 사업 진출의 전략적 계기가 될 것”이라며, “자사의 기술을 기반으로 일본의 모빌리티 혁신에 기여하고, 글로벌 시장 확대에도 박차를 가하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Autonomous A2G signs MOU with Japan's Kanematsu.
Autonomous A2G (CEO Ji-hyung Han, hereinafter A2G), a company specializing in autonomous driving technology, announced on the 5th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Japanese general trading company Kanematsu Co., Ltd. (hereinafter Kanematsu) for joint commercialization of autonomous driving technology, and is making a full-scale entry into the Japanese market.
This agreement aims to establish a foundation for local verification and commercialization of autonomous driving technology. Japan is facing challenges maintaining transportation services due to an aging population and declining local population, leading to a growing demand for autonomous driving technology. In particular, the institutional foundation has been established with the 2023 revision of the Road Traffic Act, which will allow conditional, fully driverless operation of Level 4 autonomous vehicles. Building on this foundation, both companies anticipate that autonomous driving will be used to improve local transportation services and address societal challenges such as labor shortages.
A2G currently operates 55 autonomous vehicles in 13 regions across Korea, accumulating approximately 680,000 km. Its technological prowess has been validated through national projects in Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and other countries, and it is expanding its global presence through collaborations with global companies. Furthermore, A2G's competitiveness was recognized by its position as the only Korean company to rank 11th in the 2024 global autonomous driving technology company rankings published by the US market research firm Guidehouse Insights.
A2G CEO Han Ji-hyung said, “Our collaboration with Kanematsu will be a strategic opportunity for us to enter the autonomous driving business in Japan,” and added, “Based on our technology, we will contribute to mobility innovation in Japan and accelerate our expansion into the global market.”
