덱스터스튜디오가 영화 왕과 사는 남자의 DI(Digital Intermediate, 디지털 색보정) 작업에 참여해 작품의 감정 흐름을 정교하게 구현했다고 밝혔다.
‘왕과 사는 남자’는 1457년 청령포를 배경으로, 마을의 부흥을 위해 유배를 자처한 촌장과 왕위에서 쫓겨나 유배된 어린 선왕의 이야기를 그린 작품이다. 장항준 감독이 첫 사극 연출에 나섰으며, 유해진, 박지훈, 유지태, 전미도 등이 출연했다. 개봉 5일 만에 100만 관객을 돌파한 데 이어 설 연휴 기간 흥행세를 이어가며 2026년 첫 400만 관객 돌파 영화에 올랐다.
이번 작품에서 덱스터는 인물의 감정선을 강조하는 색 설계에 집중했다. 통상적인 사극의 형식미를 강조하기보다 인물의 감정 흐름이 자연스럽게 드러나도록 색보정 방향을 설정했다는 설명이다. 특히 인물 간 대면 장면에서는 극적인 대비를 강조하기보다 콘트라스트를 미세하게 낮춰 공간의 질감을 부드럽게 조정하는 방식으로 차별화를 시도했다.
덱스터 DI본부 박진영 컬러리스트는 감정이 먼저 보이고 색은 이를 보조하는 구조를 지향했다고 설명했다. 색이 감정을 설명하기보다 감정이 스스로 드러날 수 있도록 작업에 주력했다는 입장이다.
덱스터는 영화 ‘밀정’, ‘남한산성’, ‘봉오동 전투’, ‘남산의 부장들’, ‘모가디슈’, ‘서울의 봄’, ‘하얼빈’ 등 다수 시대극의 디지털 색보정을 수행해 왔다. 회사는 최근 숏드라마 후반 작업 시장에 진출하는 등 영화와 드라마를 넘어 애니메이션, 예능, 숏폼 콘텐츠 등으로 기술 참여 영역을 확대하고 있다.

Dexter Studios announced that it participated in the DI (Digital Intermediate) work for the film The Man Who Lived with the King and precisely realized the emotional flow of the work.
Set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457, "The Man Living with the King" tells the story of a village chief who volunteers for exile to revive the village, and the young king who is deposed and exiled. Director Jang Hang-jun made his historical drama directorial debut, and the film stars Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, and Jeon Mi-do. After surpassing one million viewers in just five days, the film continued its momentum during the Lunar New Year holiday, becoming the first film to surpass four million viewers in 2026.
In this production, Dexter focused on color design that emphasized the characters' emotional arc. Rather than emphasizing the formal aesthetic of typical historical dramas, he explained that the color correction was designed to naturally reveal the characters' emotional flow. In particular, in scenes where characters interact, he differentiated the film by subtly lowering the contrast, softening the spatial texture, rather than emphasizing the dramatic contrast.
Dexter DI headquarters colorist Jinyoung Park explained that the goal was to create a structure where emotions emerge first, with color supporting them. He emphasized that the work focused on allowing emotions to emerge on their own, rather than relying on color to explain them.
Dexter has performed digital color correction for numerous period dramas, including "The Age of Shadows," "The Fortress," "The Battle of Fengwudong," "The Man Standing Next," "Mogadishu," "Spring in Seoul," and "Harbin." The company has recently expanded its technical expertise beyond film and drama to include animation, variety shows, and short-form content, including its entry into the short drama post-production market.

「王と生きる男」は1457年、清霊浦を背景に、村の復興のために流刑を自治した村長と王位から追い出され、流刑になった幼い先王の物語を描いた作品だ。チャン・ハンジュン監督が初の史劇演出に乗り出し、ユ・ヘジン、パク・ジフン、ユ・ジテ、チョン・ミドなどが出演した。公開5日ぶりに100万観客を突破したのに続き、正月連休期間の興行税を続け、2026年初の400万観客突破映画に上がった。

デクスターは映画「密正」、「南韓山城」、「奉昌洞戦闘」、「南山の部長たち」、「モガディッシュ」、「ソウルの春」、「ハルビン」など多数の時代劇のデジタル色補正を行ってきた。同社は最近、ショートドラマ後半の作業市場に進出するなど、映画やドラマを超えてアニメ、バラエティ、ショートコンテンツなどで技術参加領域を拡大している。

Dexter Studios a annoncé avoir participé au travail DI (Digital Intermediate) du film L'Homme qui a vécu avec le roi et avoir parfaitement retranscrit le flux émotionnel de l'œuvre.
Se déroulant à Cheongnyeongpo en 1457, « L'Homme vivant avec le roi » raconte l'histoire d'un chef de village qui se porte volontaire pour l'exil afin de redonner vie à son village, et celle du jeune roi déchu et exilé. Ce film, réalisé par Jang Hang-jun, est son premier drame historique. On y retrouve Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae et Jeon Mi-do. Après avoir dépassé le million de spectateurs en seulement cinq jours, le film a poursuivi son ascension pendant les vacances du Nouvel An lunaire, devenant ainsi le premier film de l'année 2026 à franchir la barre des quatre millions d'entrées.
Dans cette production, Dexter a privilégié une palette de couleurs soulignant l'évolution émotionnelle des personnages. Plutôt que de mettre l'accent sur l'esthétique formelle des drames historiques classiques, il a expliqué que l'étalonnage des couleurs visait à révéler naturellement les nuances émotionnelles des personnages. Il a souligné que le travail visait à laisser les émotions émerger naturellement, plutôt que de s'appuyer sur la couleur pour les expliquer.
