
Busan United Technology Holdings Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Hoon-ki) held its 10th anniversary celebration and performance sharing event at the Orchid Room of the Westin Chosun Busan on the morning of August 20th. Approximately 70 people attended the event, including representatives from Busan-area universities, related organizations, participating companies, and United Technology Holdings nationwide.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of former National Assemblyman Seo Byeong-su (former Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City), Busan City's Financial Startup Policy Officer and Youth Industry-Academia Bureau officials, Busan Technopark Director Kim Hyeong-gyun, heads of industry-academic cooperation groups at shareholder universities, representatives of national joint technology holding companies, and representatives of invested companies.
The event kicked off with opening remarks and guest introductions, followed by congratulatory remarks from former National Assemblyman Seo Byung-soo and Busan Technopark Director Kim Hyung-gyun. CEO Park Hoon-ki then delivered a welcoming address and shared the company's achievements over the past decade. He stated, "We have been leading the way in supporting technology commercialization and startup growth through local communities for the past decade. Going forward, we will work with the national technology holding companies to revitalize and grow the startup ecosystem."
At the performance sharing session, success stories of Busan United Technology Holdings' invested companies were presented.
First, CEO Seung-wook Lee of New Risen Co., Ltd. introduced that as a Pusan National University student startup, the company is growing into an eco-friendly cleantech company that significantly improves the lifespan of existing filters and reduces waste and carbon emissions, centered around the next-generation nano-fusion filter material 'Durafiltex'. CEO In-kyu Choi of Elect Co., Ltd. announced that the company has developed and successfully mass-produced the 'EcoCube', an innovative hybrid system that can easily convert a diesel excavator into an electric excavator, and launched it domestically, achieving sales of 900 million won in just one year since its founding. Lastly, CEO Hyun-wook Kang of T-Cure Co., Ltd. is a professor of biomedical engineering at Pukyong National University. He shared the achievement of leading innovation in the treatment of intractable digestive diseases by developing the world's first '360-degree omnidirectional light transmission endoscopic laser treatment system'.
Next, CEO Ji Geon-yeol of Jeonbuk Regional University Technology Holding Company presented on the topic of “The Role of the Technology Holding Company and the Necessity of a Council,” emphasizing the importance of a cooperative system among the technology holding companies.
Immediately following the announcement, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed to establish a National Joint Technology Holdings Council, bringing together eight joint technology holding companies across the country. Through the agreement, attendees agreed to: ▲jointly respond to the revision of the Industry-Academia Cooperation Act; ▲establish a collaborative system between the central and local governments; ▲expand joint technology investment and secure a foundation for the growth of local innovative companies; and ▲establish a regionally tailored R&D and convergence technology exchange network and infrastructure.
An official from Busan University who attended the event said, “Busan United Technology Holdings has played a pivotal role in fostering Busan’s startup ecosystem over the past 10 years,” and added, “We hope that it will continue to become a hub for innovative startups across the country, beyond Busan, by activating startups and investments in conjunction with local universities.”
Established in September 2015 by the Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Technopark, and 16 local universities as shareholders, Busan United Technology Holdings has contributed to the development of the local startup ecosystem by supporting technology commercialization and startups over the past decade. CEO Park Hoon-ki stated, "Going forward, we will further strengthen our startup support and technology commercialization efforts through collaboration with national United Technology Holdings."
