Runit announced on the 9th that it was selected as a business operator for AI cancer early diagnosis and medical capacity enhancement for the medically vulnerable class in Peru in the '2025 Integrated Government, Local Government, and Public Cooperation Project' commissioned by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Runit will participate as a business operator by forming a consortium with the Korea Health Industry Development Institute under the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and plans to conduct an on-site survey of the medically vulnerable and the local medical system in cooperation with the Peruvian public medical network SISOL (Sistema Metropolitano de la Solidaridad) until April next year.
The project secured the possibility of expansion into a pilot project worth USD 2 million (approximately KRW 2.8 billion) and a main project worth up to USD 10 million (approximately KRW 14 billion) following KOICA's evaluation process.
Lunit has been expanding its Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects to improve the quality of public healthcare and enhance access to healthcare in underserved countries by leveraging AI technology. Last June, at the Korea-Africa Summit and the Korea-ASEAN Health and Welfare Cooperation Meeting, it received letters of intent from numerous countries to participate in ODA. Recently, during the visit to Korea by Bill Gates, Chairman of the Gates Foundation, the company discussed cooperation plans with the foundation.
Seo Beom-seok, CEO of Runit, said, “The selection of Peru as an ODA operator is an important starting point for establishing an AI-based early cancer diagnosis system in underdeveloped countries,” and added, “We hope that this will be an opportunity for medically vulnerable groups to lead healthy lives through AI early diagnosis and for national public medical capacity to be strengthened.”
