The Gyeonggi Content Agency (President Yong-seok Tak, hereinafter referred to as Gyeonggi Content Agency) held a performance sharing session for the 'Gyeonggi Metaverse Campus', an educational program for fostering metaverse and extended reality (XR) experts, at the Gyeonggi XR Center in Suwon on August 29.
The Gyeonggi Metaverse Campus is a specialized training program for virtual convergence industries (metaverse, XR, artificial intelligence, etc.), hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and Gyeonggi Province, and co-hosted by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency and Gyeonggi-do Province. This year, a total of 60 participants were selected and provided free training for approximately 100 hours from July to August.
The curriculum consists of metaverse content creation using Unity, realistic content development using Unreal and artificial intelligence, expert mentoring and career exploration, and achievement sharing sessions.
Fourteen teams participated in the performance sharing session, presenting their educational findings. The winning team was selected through a judging panel. The grand prize went to the Playzen team, which created "Invisible Wall," a role-playing content focused on empathizing with the socially disadvantaged. They also received the Gyeonggi Province Governor's Award. The Playzen team stated, "We are delighted by this unexpected award. We will further develop our content to foster understanding and empathy for the underprivileged."
The Gyeongkonjin Director's Award was presented to the Bitmarble team and the Bang Kyung-min team, respectively. The Bitmarble team developed "Math Survival," an educational program that leverages Unity to enhance learning engagement among youth. The Bang Kyung-min team received excellent reviews for their Unreal-based horror escape room experience "ESCAPE SEQUENCE."
Meanwhile, the government is pursuing the "Metaverse New Industry Leading Strategy," which aims to cultivate 40,000 metaverse experts by 2026. In line with this, Gyeonggi Province has been providing training in metaverse and XR since 2016, producing approximately 2,000 graduates to date. In 2020, the Gyeonggi Province, in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and ICT, established the Gyeonggi Metaverse Support Center to continue its efforts in fostering specialized talent.
