Plitto (CEO Lee Jeong-su), a company specializing in artificial intelligence (AI)-based data and language solutions, announced on the 29th that it provided AI simultaneous interpretation solutions for the entire schedule of the 30th Busan International Film Festival 'Forum BIFF' held at the Busan Film Industry Center from September 18th to 21st.
Hosted by the Busan International Film Festival's Knowledge Film Institute, "Forum BEEF" is a forum for knowledge exchange, bringing together domestic and international film industry experts to discuss current issues and the future of the film industry. This year, under the theme "Again, Asking the Path of Asian Cinema," a total of nine sessions across four sections were held, with keynote speakers including Chinese director Jia Zhangke and Korean director Min Kyu-dong.
At this event, Pluto provided real-time translations of speakers' remarks and discussions in four languages—Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese—using its AI-based simultaneous interpretation solution, "Live Translation." The translated content was broadcast on stage, and during panel discussions, each speaker was provided with a tablet to minimize language barriers and facilitate a smooth discussion. Audience members could also access the real-time translations on their personal devices via QR codes.
This year's "Forum BEEF" event, marking the 30th anniversary of the Busan International Film Festival, marked the first official introduction of an AI simultaneous interpretation solution. It received positive reviews for complementing the existing interpreter-centric support system and demonstrating the potential for global expansion of the festival's academic events. Attendees and domestic and international film industry professionals expressed anticipation for its future use in similar events and across the industry.
