The international development cooperation NGO Ji Foundation (CEO Park Chung-kwan) announced on the 10th that the Hana Financial Sharing Foundation (Chairman Lee Seung-yeol) provided educational support funds to help children and adolescents at local children's centers learn how to understand and respect diversity.
This sponsorship is part of the "Local Children's Center Cultural Education Support Project," a partnership between the two organizations that has been ongoing for three years. This year, it was implemented as "Season 3: Children Seeking Diversity, Not Difference." Hana Financial Group Sharing Foundation will continue this project starting in 2023, supporting the physical and mental health of children from low-income and multicultural families in Korea.
The project selected four regional children's centers nationwide, each with at least 15% multicultural children and youth, based on their educational infrastructure. Children at these centers received 15 sessions of basic learning classes, six sessions of cultural diversity education, and cultural experience activities. The goal was to improve literacy and foster a stronger sense of self-esteem through a deeper understanding of multiculturalism.
Additionally, a post-project meeting was held to share the project's achievements and best practices. Attendees included Hana Financial Group Sharing Foundation Director Kim Jeong-woo and Deputy Director Kim Min-jo, representatives from four project partner organizations, and representatives from the Ji Foundation. The meeting discussed the impact of raising awareness of cultural diversity and enhancing multicultural acceptance.
Kim Jeong-woo, Secretary General of the Hana Financial Sharing Foundation, said, "The Hana Financial Sharing Foundation has been providing support for three years in the hope that 'difference' will be respected as 'diversity.'" He added, "Through this support, we hope that children, the future leaders of the next generation, will be able to fully pursue their dreams in a discrimination-free environment. We will continue to support the growth of children from multicultural backgrounds."
Ji Foundation Director Bae So-jin said, "We sincerely thank the Hana Financial Sharing Foundation for their continued generosity to children from multicultural families and other vulnerable groups in Korea. We hope that this sharing will serve as an opportunity to boost children's confidence in learning and living." She added, "Ji Foundation will continue to work together to create a warm society where no one is left behind."
