The Korea Institute for Self-Reliance and Welfare held the "2025 Metropolitan Area Regional Self-Reliance Policy Forum."

The Korea Institute for Self-Reliance and Welfare (Director Jeong Hae-sik) announced that it will host the "2025 Metropolitan Area Self-Reliance Policy Forum (Gyeonggi-Seoul-Incheon)" at the Gyeonggi Human Resources Development Center on October 21st. This forum, themed "Research on Metropolitan Self-Reliance Enterprise Models to Ensure Sustainability of Self-Reliance Enterprises," was organized to discuss the development direction and cooperation models for self-reliance enterprises in the metropolitan area.

The forum will feature a variety of discussions focusing on the role that regional self-reliance enterprises can play in the self-reliance enterprise ecosystem and their function as regional self-reliance infrastructure.

The keynote speech will be given by Kang Do-hyun, Executive Director of the Social Economy Research Institute under the Social Investment Foundation, who will present the potential of a regional self-reliance enterprise model to enhance the sustainability of self-reliance enterprises. The following general discussion will be moderated by Professor Oh Chang-ho of Hanshin University, and will be attended by Oh Young-beom, Director of the Self-Reliance Enterprise Research Institute of the Korea Self-Reliance Enterprise Association; Kim Hyun-sook, President of Beyond Social Cooperative; Lee Moon-soo, Secretary General of the Korea Association of Regional Self-Reliance Centers; and Seo Gwang-guk, Director of the Job Creation Division of the Korea Self-Reliance Welfare Development Institute. The panel will discuss policy challenges and implementation strategies for self-reliance from various perspectives.

Jeong Hae-sik, the director of the Korea Institute for Self-Reliance and Welfare, said, “In order to ensure the sustainability of self-reliance enterprises, regional cooperation and on-site execution capabilities must go beyond institutional support,” and added, “I hope that this forum will serve as an opportunity to explore the direction of self-reliance enterprise operation and policy alternatives that reflect the characteristics of the metropolitan area.”

The "Regional Self-Reliance Policy Forum on Wheels" is a rotating forum held annually by the Korea Institute for Self-Reliance and Welfare since 2023. It brings together metropolitan and regional self-reliance centers, local governments, and related organizations to share local self-reliance policies and current issues. This Seoul Metropolitan Area forum is the sixth and final event of the 2025 forum series, completing a rotation that began in other regions, including Gangwon-Jeju, Honam, Chungcheong, and Yeongnam.
