The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) has launched the "OpenData X AI Challenge." "15 startups advanced to the finals among 124 companies."

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Han Sung-sook, hereinafter referred to as MSS) announced that it held the opening ceremony of the 'OpenData X AI Challenge' at COEX in Seoul on the 12th, with approximately 100 people in attendance, including 15 AI startups and officials from task-providing organizations. This challenge was created with the purpose of discovering AI-based solutions that can help the people's lives by opening up field data actually used by public institutions to AI startups.

This challenge began with a pre-briefing session on November 5th and recruited participants from November 6th to November 30th. A total of 124 startups applied, resulting in a competition rate of 8.3 to 1. After document screening, a total of 15 startups were selected for the final round, with five companies per project: recommendations for customized support programs based on an integrated platform, customized consulting for small business owners, and SME growth and risk prediction.

After the opening ceremony, the finalists will be provided with the entire dataset owned by the project's design agency, allowing each team to begin full-scale AI model development. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will provide 10 million won in Proof of Concept (PoC) funding per team and establish a system for direct communication with relevant agency staff, providing real-time development support.

The completed AI model will undergo a three-week user experience evaluation, starting on January 21st of next year, where users from small and medium-sized enterprises and small businesses will directly experience the model and assess their satisfaction. Following this, a presentation review will be held on January 28th, comprehensively evaluating the model's accuracy, completeness, and development direction to select the final six companies.

The selected startups will officially present and demonstrate their developed AI models at the 'AI Startup Showcase' to be held on February 12th.

Kim Woo-joong, Director of Planning and Coordination, said, “This challenge is not a simple technology competition, but a practical AI program that solves challenges faced in actual policy settings together with startups.” He added, “We hope this will be the starting point for a new model of cooperation where policy and technology meet on the same stage.”
