
The Gyeongnam Creative Economy Innovation Center (CEO Noh Chung-sik) announced that it held the Gyeongnam Climate Tech Startup Ecosystem Activation Forum jointly with the Gyeongnam Regional Association of the Korea Federation of Science and Technology Societies at the Tiffany Room of the Grand Mercure Ambassador Hotel in Changwon on December 12.
This forum was organized to explore ways to promote startups and technology commercialization in the climate tech sector based on the Regional Innovation System (RIS), and 53 climate tech startups from across the country and experts from industry, academia, research, government, and the private sector attended, showing great interest.
The event shared strategies for revitalizing the Gyeongnam climate tech startup ecosystem through the introduction of the regional innovation system concept, examples of climate tech application based on overseas collaboration, and examples of regional startups and technology commercialization. This led to discussions on the potential expansion of the climate tech industry and regional linkage strategies.
In the keynote speech, Kim Gwan-young, the project manager of the Gyeongnam Regional Association of the Korea Federation of Science and Technology Societies, presented a strategy to revitalize the Gyeongnam climate tech startup ecosystem through the introduction of a regional innovation system. Professor Shin Seung-gu of Gyeongsang National University presented a case study on biogasification of palm oil byproducts in Malaysia, and Professor Kim Pil-joo of Gyeongsang National University introduced a strategy to implement carbon agriculture based on a case study on development cooperation in Malaybalay, Philippines.
Next, as a presentation of climate tech company cases, CEO Yoon-ho Cho of TMS Industry Co., Ltd. introduced an automated recycling system for waste batteries based on eco-friendly refrigerant (LNG); Director Seok-jin Shin of Godtech Co., Ltd. introduced an alloy parts reuse and recycling technology using additive manufacturing technology; CEO Jo Hang-hee of Ecobios Co., Ltd. introduced an environmental purification insect-based circular economy case; and CEO Hae-seong Jeong of SR Co., Ltd. introduced a sustainable waste battery metal extraction and recovery technology.
The comprehensive discussion following the presentation included discussions on the potential application of climate tech technologies in the field, linkages with startups, and collaboration with local industries. Networking sessions also provided opportunities for interaction among attendees and the potential for future collaboration.
The Gyeongnam Creative Economy Innovation Center announced that it plans to use this forum as an opportunity to strengthen support for startups in the climate tech sector and link technology commercialization, thereby fostering a sustainable startup ecosystem based on the region.
