Sensestone (CEO Chang-Hoon Yoo) , a company specializing in authentication security, announced that it was selected as one of the 2025 Excellent Information Protection Technologies hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and received the Minister of Science and ICT Award.
The Excellent Information Protection Technology program, designed to strengthen the competitiveness of the domestic information security industry, designates technologies, products, and services developed by domestic companies through a comprehensive evaluation of novelty, originality, security, and commercial viability. Senstone's OTAC for Phygital reportedly received high scores across all evaluation criteria.
OTAC for Phygital, selected this time, is a solution designed to implement secure authentication in both physical and digital environments based on OTAC, a one-way dynamic authentication technology developed exclusively by Senstone. OTAC generates a one-time authentication code on the client side and transmits it unidirectionally, without requiring real-time two-way communication with the server. Based solely on the received code, the server can identify and authenticate users, terminals, and commands without duplication.
OTAC for Phygital demonstrates particular strengths in OT environments. It has been expanded to include Endpoint OTAC and OTAC Trusted Access Gateway architectures, enabling verification of access entities and devices at OT endpoints such as PLCs, HMIs, RTUs, DCSs, and SCADA, at the OT code level. This is considered an example of overcoming the limitations of OT environments, which previously relied on password-based authentication due to one-way communication structures and equipment modification restrictions.
Endpoint OTAC authenticates OT endpoints using OTAC values generated on user terminals. Designed to comply with key international regulations and standards, including IEC 62443, NIS2, and CRA, it enhances operational and management security and compliance capabilities, including user identification and audit log acquisition.
OTAC Trusted Access Gateway is a structure that allows authentication procedures to be added without changing the equipment by placing the gateway in front of the OT equipment, enabling user identification and authentication record management while minimizing the impact on the existing operating environment.
Senstone announced that it plans to use this award as an opportunity to continue research and development and intellectual property acquisition for core authentication security technologies, and to strengthen the competitiveness of OTAC-based technologies across industrial, public, and OT environments.
