The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the National Tax Service signed a business agreement to support the growth of AI-powered SMEs and startups.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the National Tax Service announced on the 18th that they signed a business agreement at the Seoul Regional Tax Office to support the growth of AI-based SMEs and startups. This agreement aims to promote technology development and commercialization for AI companies by linking AI-specific support projects with tax incentives.

Under the agreement, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups will specify tax incentives for AI-specific support projects and provide the National Tax Service with a list of eligible AI SMEs and startups. The National Tax Service will provide tax support to these companies by minimizing tax audits, assisting with pre-screening of R&D tax credits, providing liquidity support such as extensions of payment deadlines, and providing consultations on tax issues.

Through this agreement, the two organizations will establish a support system to promote the development and utilization of AI technology by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will support research and development (R&D) and commercialization for AI model and service development, as well as the application of AI technology to improve productivity and quality and enhance management efficiency. The National Tax Service will support companies by easing their tax burden and providing liquidity support, enabling them to focus on developing core technologies.

At a meeting held alongside the signing ceremony, representatives from AI SMEs proposed priority support for GPUs, improvements to the stock option tax system, expanded tax benefits for performance-linked stocks, easing AI data regulations, and preferential access to policy funding. In response, both organizations announced their intention to review institutional and tax support measures necessary for AI model and service development, data utilization, and R&D.

The two organizations plan to expand the scope of their future cooperation and continuously strengthen the cooperative system that supports the full-cycle growth of AI SMEs and startups.
