Gyeonggi Province to Host the 3rd Metaverse Infrastructure Council in 2025

The Gyeonggi Content Agency (GCA) announced that it held the "3rd 2025 Metaverse Infrastructure Council" with the Metropolitan Metaverse Support Center (GCA·Incheon Technopark) on December 4th and 5th. Approximately 80 participants, including representatives from the Ministry of Science and ICT, Gyeonggi Province, the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), and national metaverse support centers, attended the council.

The council shared the annual performance of the National Metaverse Support Centers and discussed the center designation process and future cooperation directions in accordance with the Virtual Convergence Industry Promotion Act. The council also reviewed practical cooperation measures, including equipment upgrades, program restructuring, and expansion of joint projects between centers to address growing demand.

A special lecture was then held to address the changing industrial landscape driven by XR and AI. Boldstep CEO Jeon Jin-soo discussed technological trends under the theme, "The Future of the XR Industry Through AI," while National Assembly Research Service Research Fellow Lee Seung-hwan presented key issues and policy considerations for the virtual convergence industry.

Additionally, the Gyeonggi-Incheon Metaverse Support Center presented best practices and achievements, and a forum was set up for regional centers to share their accumulated experience. Participants reviewed the national cooperation system and discussed next year's implementation strategy and the need to expand joint demonstration projects.

An official from the Capital Area Metaverse Support Center stated, "This meeting was a meaningful opportunity for centers across the country to come together and strengthen mutual cooperation. We will develop plans to enhance virtual convergence infrastructure and expand demonstration programs in the future." Kwon Soon-min, head of the Future Industry Headquarters at Gyeonggi Province's Korea Economic Daily, stated, "We will strive to strengthen the national virtual convergence industry ecosystem by connecting the strengths of regional centers."
