Global content company Ridibooks Inc. (CEO Bae Ki-sik, hereinafter referred to as Ridibooks) announced on the 26th that it received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award at the 2nd Korea Copyright Protection Awards.
The 'Republic of Korea Copyright Protection Awards', hosted by the Korea Copyright Commission under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, was established last year to reward organizations and companies that have contributed to the protection of K-content copyrights and the development of the creative ecosystem.
Since 2023, Ridibooks has served as the secretary of the Webtoon Illegal Distribution Response Council, comprised of seven major webtoon operators, and has spearheaded collaboration between the industry and various organizations. Through the council's activities, including sharing information on illegal distribution, establishing a joint response process, and submitting group petitions, Ridibooks has strengthened the practical penalties for illegal site operators, contributing to the eradication of illegal distribution across the industry.
Furthermore, Ridibooks has established a dedicated team to combat illegal content distribution, operates an anti-piracy program, and systematically manages copyright protection activities. Through continuous monitoring, the company has received over 100 million cumulative reports of copyright infringement, and by taking immediate action upon receiving reports of illegal distribution, it has achieved a blocking rate of approximately 90%. This year, the company has continued its multifaceted response, including shutting down illegal sharing channels on social media platforms like Telegram and Discord, responding to illegally uploaded videos on YouTube, blocking the distribution of DRM removal programs, and cracking down on illegal overseas merchandise.
Ridibooks CEO Bae Ki-sik said, “Copyright protection is a core value that ensures creators receive fair compensation and ensures the continued growth of the K-content industry,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen cooperation with institutions and the industry and do our best to foster a healthy creative ecosystem in the global market.”
