Newbility Signs Business Agreement with Smart City Busan

Newbility (CEO Sangmin Lee), an intelligent robot service platform company, announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Smart City Busan Co., Ltd. for a pilot project to introduce robots to implement a smart and safe city using autonomous patrol robots in the Busan Eco Delta Smart City National Pilot City.

Newbility has been developing its outdoor autonomous driving technology based on delivery robots into "Physical AI," a fusion of hardware and software, and has been applying it to patrol and security areas since 2023. Through this agreement, the company plans to link its privately-proven patrol robot service with the infrastructure of a national pilot city, securing a reference that can be expanded to local governments nationwide and various private development projects.

The Busan National Model City aims to implement three platforms—digital city, augmented city, and robot city—and ten innovative services, including robot-based lifestyle innovation and smart safety, within a real city. Smart City Busan Co., Ltd., a special purpose corporation (SPC) established with public-private investment, is responsible for developing sustainable private sector projects by combining private innovation technologies and business models with the national model city infrastructure.

In this demonstration project, Newbility will provide outdoor autonomous patrol robots, control technology, and operational know-how, while Smart City Busan Co., Ltd. will support demonstration spaces and citizen participation living labs to utilize robot operation data to improve urban services.

Newbility's patrol robots can operate reliably in rain, snow, fog, and at night, and are equipped with AI-based abnormal behavior detection, real-time video transmission, and remote control capabilities. Busan plans to integrate these robots with digital and safety systems to expand them into citizen-focused services, such as monitoring crime-prone areas, ensuring pedestrian safety at night, and patrolling parks and waterfronts.

Newbility CEO Lee Sang-min said, “Patrol robots are key infrastructure that go beyond mobile cameras to collect and analyze urban data to increase safety,” adding, “We will expand the model developed in the Busan National Pilot City to local governments and private development projects nationwide.”

Lee Kye-hyung, CEO of Smart City Busan, said, “This demonstration goes beyond a technology demonstration and is a process of creating an urban robot service model that can operate in the actual lives of citizens, and will serve as an opportunity for Busan to lead the global smart city standard.”
