Chungnam Content Promotion Agency (Director Kim Gok-mi, hereinafter referred to as the Promotion Agency) signed a business agreement with CJ ENM and Mexican broadcaster Canal22 on the 16th to support the development of Chungnam’s video industry, content exchange cooperation, and overseas market development.
Through this agreement, the Promotion Agency will support CJ ENM's participation in <2025 MIP Cancun>, which was selected as a target company for the 2025 Overseas Market Development Support Project, and will support overseas market development for works set in South Chungcheong Province that have already been produced through the Promotion Agency's production and filming support.
Furthermore, we aim to promote exchange and cooperation between South Chungcheong Province and Mexico in the content industry, thereby laying the foundation for diverse content from South Chungcheong Province to enter the South American market.
CJ ENM is a comprehensive entertainment company that produces and distributes various contents including broadcasting, movies, music, and live performances and is active in the global market. It will be exhibiting several works set in South Chungcheong Province at the largest film market in South America, held in Cancun, Mexico this November.
Canal 22, a public cultural broadcaster under the Mexican Ministry of Culture, produces and broadcasts high-quality cultural content, including art and documentary films. To facilitate this agreement, Vice President Fernando A. Paredes Castillo visited Korea and discussed specific plans for exchange and cooperation between the two organizations.
On the world's largest music streaming service, Mexico boasts over 14 million K-pop fans, the fifth-largest in the world. Korean content is also increasingly entering the top 10 on the world's largest video streaming service, fueling the Korean Wave craze.
As Mexico is a leading country in the South American content market, this agreement is expected to serve as a bridgehead for South Chungcheong Province's content industry to expand into the region. Furthermore, by actively supporting global production and distribution platforms to film in South Chungcheong Province, it is expected to contribute to the overall revitalization of the local economy, including tourism, accommodation, and transportation. The Korea Tourism Organization and Canal 22 also discussed hosting a local film festival in Mexico and pledged to pursue joint projects.
Director Kim Gok-mi said, “South Chungcheong Province is attracting attention as an optimal location for domestic and international video production due to its rich natural environment and historical and cultural resources,” and added, “As global OTTs such as Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon turn their attention to South Chungcheong Province, we will not miss the opportunity and become a promotion agency that advances into the world.”
