
Immersive XR tech company Olymplanet announced on the 15th that it has hired former Korea Economic Daily editorial writer Kwon Young-seol as president of its media division.
President Kwon graduated from Yonsei University's Department of Philosophy and the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School (MBA). He started out as a reporter at the Korea Economic Daily in 1991, and served as an editorial writer and head of the planning and coordination office. He also served as president of Hyungji Elite, editor-in-chief of Economic Daily, and president of Media Pen. He is an innovation expert who first introduced and spread the 'Blue Ocean' strategy in Korea in 2004, and also founded the '29 Second Film Festival', the largest ultra-short film festival in Korea. President Kwon plans to launch a specialized media outlet on metaverse and generative artificial intelligence (AI) in March.
Meanwhile, Olymplanet plans to use this year, its 10th anniversary, as the first year of its leap forward and strengthen its media sector with public functions with the goal of establishing and spreading the metaverse culture. President Kwon said, “With the development of extended reality (XR) and generative AI technologies, the metaverse industry is creating real value and driving digital innovation.” He added, “We will present ‘Metanomics (Metavers+Economics)’ that combines immersive technology and economic models by promoting the growth of the domestic XR industry, contributing to job creation through this, and developing various public interest campaigns.”
