Shopee Korea (CEO Kwon Yoon-ah, Shopee), the largest e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, announced on the 13th that it successfully held the 'Shopee Day' event at Cave House in Hannam-dong, Seoul on the 10th to announce the results of the domestic SME export support project with government agencies last year and award excellent sellers.

The event was graced by the presence of approximately 250 people, including Shopee Korea CEO Kwon Yoon-ah, government officials from the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency (KOSME), Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Korea SMEs and Startups Distribution Agency (KODMA), and Seoul Economic Promotion Agency (SBA), as well as Shopee sellers who participated in the support project.

At the event, Shopee Korea and government agencies shared business performance indicators and implementation details for domestic sellers to enter overseas online markets, and introduced successful strategies and cases of excellent sellers who participated in the support project. Afterwards, there was time to have opportunities for mutual cooperation through Shopee offline consultation booth operation and networking between leading small and medium-sized sellers.

Last year, Shopee Korea joined hands with several organizations, including the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, the Korea SMEs and Startups Distribution Agency, and the Seoul Economic Promotion Agency, to provide marketing and logistics support for domestic SMEs to expand their overseas sales channels. As a result of conducting 7 projects and 56 various campaigns throughout the year and leading a total of 1,135 sellers to participate, the transaction amount through government-supported projects in 2024 grew 10% year-on-year, achieving the largest scale ever.

The number of orders from sellers who participated in government-supported projects increased by 36% year-on-year, more than doubling the growth rate of sellers who did not participate in government-supported projects. In particular, the beauty category showed growth of more than 50% year-on-year, leading the overall sales increase of the support project, and the performance of beauty sellers stood out.

By market, the sales volume through support projects was the largest in Singapore. In the case of Vietnam, which ranked second in sales volume, sales grew by 131% compared to 2023, showing steady market potential by recording the highest growth rate through projects. Similarly, Thailand showed a continuous sales growth of 112% during the same period. Taiwan is also evaluated to have successfully completed the government support project by recording a growth rate of 55%.

After the announcement of the results, there was a time to award excellent sellers who participated in government-supported projects and showed remarkable growth. Outstanding sellers were selected by category, including 'Wish Company' (beauty), 'Yeongrong' (health functional food), and 'Kkot-euldamda' (food and beverage). They shared success stories through their participation in the project and also presented strategies and know-how that led to visible results.

In addition, there was an on-site Q&A session, an offline Shopee consultation booth operation, a marketing support fund provision event, and a networking event for leading domestic small and medium-sized sellers. At the consultation booth, Shopee Korea employees directly answered questions related to Shopee, such as shop operation, and worked to increase sellers’ understanding of the platform. The networking event provided a venue for sellers to communicate with other sellers and create new business opportunities.

Yoonah Kwon, CEO of Shopee Korea, said, “Shopee Korea has been working closely with government agencies and local governments since 2019 to support domestic small and medium-sized businesses to enter the Southeast Asian, Taiwanese, and Central and South American markets, and we have been renewing the number of participating sellers and business performance every year.” She added, “In the new year, we will continue to strengthen our collaboration with government agencies to serve as a stepping stone for sellers to expand overseas, and we will also strive to create events like this one where sellers can seek opportunities for cooperation.”
