The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Oh Young-joo, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of SMEs and Startups) announced on the 26th that it will additionally implement the 'Overseas Export Regulation Response Support Project' to strengthen the overseas export regulation response capabilities of small and medium-sized enterprises.
This support is a project that has secured an additional budget of 10 billion won to ease the burden on our small and medium-sized enterprises that have recently suffered from the Trump administration's tariff imposition. In particular, this measure will provide related information and advice to companies that wish to open up new markets, and support them to respond quickly to obtaining certifications required by export destination countries. The specific details are as follows.

◆ Support for obtaining overseas standard certification
First, a portion (50-70%) of the cost required for testing, certification, and consulting to obtain standard certification required by the export destination country will be subsidized up to KRW 100 million per company. In particular, in this supplementary budget project, the small-scale certification support limit, which was previously supported without limitation on the maximum number of applications (4 cases), will be temporarily increased from KRW 35 million to KRW 50 million. In addition, participation in the project will be exceptionally permitted in cases where certification is already in progress through participation in the SME Ministry's overseas standard certification acquisition support project.
◆ Establishment of pre-certification review and diagnosis
A pre-consulting system is being introduced to help companies that are new to overseas certification obtain certification without trial and error with the certification preparation process. Certification experts are expected to minimize failure to obtain certification by pre-screening individual companies to see if they have the necessary documents for certification or are properly prepared for on-site inspections (factory inspections) and to supplement any deficiencies.
◆ Providing information and expert consultation related to export regulations, holding briefing sessions
In order to provide the latest information on export regulations in each country, including changes in U.S. tariff policies, and to promptly respond to inquiries or difficulties from companies through experts, we operate a dedicated response team comprised of experts such as customs brokers. Furthermore, we provide services by establishing an 'AI chatbot consultation' system that allows real-time access and inquiries. In addition, we will conduct export regulation and tariff briefings and expert consultations in 15 regions nationwide for local companies, and we plan to produce and distribute guidebooks and videos containing overviews and preparation procedures for major overseas certifications.
Lee Soon-bae, Director of Global Growth Policy, said, “The recent U.S. tariff measures pose a significant challenge to companies, but they can also serve as an opportunity to enter new markets,” and added, “We will increase policy support so that our small and medium-sized enterprises can use this opportunity to diversify their exports and expand their economic territory through successful overseas certification.”
Recruitment for participating companies in the overseas standard certification acquisition support project will begin on the 27th, and detailed information on this project and other overseas export regulation response support projects can be found on the Overseas Standard Certification Acquisition Support Center website .
