'Platform Startup' Takes on User Protection, the New Standard for Digital Consumption

With the proliferation of apps and services in the digital environment, consumers are increasingly placing greater importance on others’ experiences and certifications to make careful choices. Accordingly, consumer behaviors that seek to reduce risk based on verified information such as user reviews, influencer reviews, and certifications from professional organizations are becoming commonplace.

In line with this trend, platform companies are also strengthening their user protection functions. Azar is giving badges to well-mannered users, Google is preventing online fraud with AI security tools, and Instagram and TikTok are improving their protection functions for minor accounts. In the end, both consumers and platforms are pursuing interactions centered on 'trust'. In an era of information overload, proven experiences and a safe environment are emerging as a source of competitiveness.

◆ Strengthening online fraud prevention functions and adding AI-based warning functions, 'Google'

Earlier this month, Google announced the introduction of a new AI security tool powered by the Gemini Nano to protect Chrome users from online fraud. The update strengthens Chrome’s Safe Browsing mode, providing twice the protection of the standard protection mode. Google plans to extend this protection to Android devices and to a wider range of online fraud types in the future.

We’ve also added an AI-based warning feature to Chrome for Android that can recognize spam notifications. The feature works by having AI display a warning message when a malicious website tries to trick users through push notifications. After receiving the warning, users can choose to unsubscribe or check the blocked content. If they feel the warning was displayed incorrectly, they will also have the option to allow notifications from that site again.

◆ 'Safety Pairing' additional update allows parents to directly manage their children's proper SNS use, 'TikTok'

TikTok recently updated its 'Safety Pairing' feature to regulate the amount of time teenagers spend on TikTok. This update includes a total of 15 safety, wellness, and privacy protection features. This helps parents properly manage their children's TikTok usage and helps teenagers develop balanced digital habits.

The new update's key feature is the 'Take a Break' feature, which allows parents to directly control screen time. Users under the age of 18 have a default screen time set to 60 minutes per day, but if they want to use it longer than the set time, they must obtain consent from their guardian.

Meanwhile, TikTok also announced that it will introduce a feature that will allow young users to notify parents, guardians, or trusted adults when they report content that violates TikTok’s community guidelines. This feature will be available even for accounts that are not connected via Safety Pairing.

◆ Actively protecting minor users by detecting youth accounts, 'Instagram'

Instagram, which announced its "Teen Accounts" policy last year, recently unveiled a protection feature that uses AI technology to automatically change fake adult accounts that appear to be teens into teen accounts so that more teens can be properly protected when using the app. It was also revealed that an exception procedure is provided so that users can change the setting if a real adult account is incorrectly detected as a teen account.

Meta has announced that it will continue to make improvements to ensure that parents and teens can have age-appropriate experiences online together, as it expands to teen accounts worldwide, including Korea, starting this January.

◆ Global video chat platform 'Azar' introduces 'Azar Badge' feature for manner users

Hyperconnect's global video chat platform 'Azar' recently introduced a new feature, 'Azar Badge', which shows users who consistently show respect for others. This feature was created to encourage a culture where users voluntarily follow manners and continue to communicate with respect for each other on Azar.

The Azar badge is a mark given to users who have participated in Azar video calls consistently for a sufficient amount of time and have not violated the user policy and community guidelines. The Azar badge is displayed on the user profile, indicating that the user has not been sanctioned while using the service. Azar regularly checks the activity status and compliance of Azar badge holders and strives to create a fun video chat culture. If a user is sanctioned, the badge will be immediately revoked, and the badge may be revoked if there is no login record from the previous month.

In addition, Azar is taking the lead in improving user experience by applying Hyperconnect's excellent AI technology, such as an AI monitoring system that filters harmful content in real time. As a result, it has established itself as a leading global video chat platform with over 400 million cumulative subscribers in 188 countries around the world.
