
Beam Mobility, a personal mobility (PM) sharing service company, is introducing an 'AI parking evaluation system' to Daegu Technopolis and is taking full-scale steps to improve the parking order of electric kickboards using technology. This measure is a case where Beam Mobility first introduced the system in Cheongju City last year and expanded the application area to Daegu based on actual operational effectiveness.
The 'AI parking evaluation system' is a technology that uses AI to analyze photos automatically taken when an electric kickboard is finished using in real time to determine the appropriateness of the parking situation. When you press 'End' on the app when you finish using it, the camera automatically operates and checks in real time whether the parking location is safe and appropriate based on the photos taken.
If an electric kickboard is overturned or parked in a place that obstructs pedestrian traffic, such as a crosswalk, tactile paving block, or subway entrance, this will be detected and an 'incorrect parking' warning message will be repeatedly displayed on the app screen. Users can then correct their parking situation by being prompted to take a re-photo.
This system is linked to a GPS-based ‘virtual designated parking system’ to improve parking precision. The virtual designated parking system can maintain parking order without a physical parking stand by only allowing electric scooters to be returned to virtual areas within the app. In addition, AI-based image analysis technology is added to enable precise judgment that takes into account the actual device placement status.
Since the technology was first introduced to Cheongju City in late October 2024, it has proven its practical improvement effect by recording an electric kickboard parking compliance rate of 81.56% as of March 2025. The parking compliance rate improved by about 30%p from the initial level of about 52%, showing that the introduction of the technology has led to actual changes in user behavior.
A Daegu city official said, “The introduction of an AI-based parking evaluation system is expected to further increase the PM parking rate in conjunction with the virtual parking system that is being piloted for the first time in Korea in Daegu Techno Valley. It is a very useful technology for improving the urban pedestrian environment by reducing inconvenience to citizens.” He added, “We hope that this introduction will serve as an opportunity to further establish PM parking order, and we will work with Beam Mobility in the future to create a safer and more pleasant transportation environment.”
A Beam Mobility official said, “The AI parking evaluation system is an autonomous improvement solution that helps electric kickboard users create a proper parking culture on their own. Based on the practical results in Cheongju, we have decided to expand its introduction to Daegu.” He added, “We will continue to contribute to improving PM usage culture and the urban pedestrian environment through technological development.”
