Seoul Fintech Lab Selects 'Surf Company' as New Tenant in the First Half of 2025

Seoul Fintech Lab, a fintech incubation organization run by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, has selected global trade logistics startup Surf Company as a new resident company for the first half of 2025. Seoul Fintech Lab selects resident companies by comprehensively considering technological prowess, growth potential, and global expandability.

Surf Company was founded in 2023 through Hyundai Motor Group’s internal venture program, and is a startup that aims to transform the global trade and logistics sector. The company develops and operates a shipping (container space) trading platform for small and medium-sized enterprises and startups, and uses AI technology based on shipping data to support efficiency across logistics, including freight comparison, reservation, and cargo tracking.

As of 2024, Surf Company's transaction amount increased by 600% compared to the previous year, and the cumulative transaction amount reached 2 billion won. In addition, it has completed more than 300 container transports and supported the overseas expansion of about 50 domestic companies, mainly in Europe and Southeast Asia.

Based on its technological prowess and growth potential, Surf Company has been attracting attention from the industry by being selected as an excellent company in various government and public institution-hosted programs, such as the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' 'Blue Startup', the Korea Data Industry Promotion Agency's '2024 DATA-Star', and the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology's 'Smart Maritime Logistics Unicorn Contest'.

With this move-in, Surf Company plans to fully expand its new fintech business model that combines finance and logistics, centered in Seoul. In particular, it is building a convergence model between fintech and the shipping industry through real-time freight comparison and price prediction, marketplace-based ship transaction, and price fluctuation response solution (SURFF model) through financial product linkage.

In addition, Surf Company is developing a financial model for credit evaluation and risk management of logistics companies in cooperation with Woori Bank starting in 2025, and plans to expand strategic collaboration with public institutions and financial institutions in the future.

An official from Seoul Fintech Lab stated, “Surf Company is a company that possesses both the ability to solve practical problems in the industrial field and global scalability,” and “We will continue to discover and support technology-based innovative companies to increase the diversity and sustainability of the fintech industry.”
