Naver and Universal Music Sign Music Licensing Agreement

Naver Corp. (CEO Choi Soo-yeon) announced on the 18th that it is joining hands with the record label Universal Music to support clip creators to produce clips using Universal Music 's abundant sound sources.

Naver is stepping up its support to allow clip creators to create videos with the desired atmosphere using various background music. Through this music licensing agreement with Universal Music, Naver Clip can now use music from 2.1 million global artists, from the Beatles to Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish. In March, it also added music from various genres, including K-POP, indie, and jazz.

Naver has also updated the clip editor to allow creators to insert background music more conveniently. It also recommends newly released songs and popular music from clips to help you find music that suits your videos better. It also added a music storage function to quickly collect frequently used music.

Naver Clip Leader Kim A-young said, “As of March, clip production has increased more than fivefold compared to the previous year, and clips are continuing to grow rapidly,” and “With the support of Universal Music’s music through this agreement, we expect to see more diverse clips produced, and we will continue to strengthen our support, including various tools necessary for content production, to revitalize the clip ecosystem.”

Meanwhile, Naver Clip has been running a new location challenge, 'Today {Here} Clip', since April, so synergy with Universal Music's music support is expected. 'Today {Here} Clip' allows for more freedom in sharing hot places or places that suit one's taste without subject restrictions, so creators are actively participating. Compared to the 'Clip Power Challenge' that was held until last month, 35% more challenge clips were produced during the same period, and the participation rate of 1030 users was particularly high.
