Aguni CEO Kwon Mi-jin, Korean representative participating in APEC summit workshop

AgUni, an intelligent agro-bio ecosystem company, announced on the 9th that Kwon Mi-jin, CEO of AgUni, will be participating as a speaker as a representative of Korea at the 'Workshop to Promote the Adoption of Circular Agriculture by Women-led Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs)' hosted by APEC. The workshop is scheduled to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam on the 15th, and Kwon plans to discuss sustainable agricultural ecosystem models. Kwon Mi-jin was recognized for her innovation and global expansion potential when she won the Grand Prix, the highest award among 21 countries, at the 'APEC BEST Award', an international competition hosted by APEC in 2022. As a former winner and leading female entrepreneur, this workshop is expected to be an opportunity for her to present a new model of sustainable agriculture for the Asia-Pacific region.

This workshop is an official project hosted by the APEC Small and Medium Enterprises Working Group (SMEWG), and will be a place to promote sustainable agricultural participation by women entrepreneurs and explore SME development strategies from a circular economy perspective. APEC officials and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will also participate, and it will be an important preparatory meeting to share best practices and derive policy recommendations among APEC member countries, laying the foundation for inclusive and sustainable growth strategies to be discussed at the upcoming APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) and APEC Summit (AELM). AgUni, representing Korea, the chair country of the 2025 APEC Summit, is expected to draw attention.

Founded in 2019, Aguni is developing the agricultural air dome ‘Agdome’ and the soil-based multi-stage cultivation system ‘Growwide’ to prepare for sustainable agriculture in response to climate change. In addition, it is conducting a contract cultivation business with pharmaceutical and food companies by securing the optimal growth recipe for functional crops. Recently, it has recruited global B2B strategy and seed development R&D experts to expand its position as an agricultural CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) platform that stably supplies high-quality natural raw materials.

At this workshop, CEO Kwon Mi-jin will present an intelligent circular agriculture system where climate, seeds, soil, crops, bees, humans, and technology are organically connected. She will introduce cultivation systems utilizing air domes and Growwide, high-efficiency breeding models, functional crops, and high-quality honey production methods, and she will also discuss ways to create agricultural jobs and achieve economic independence. In particular, Aguni will introduce its smart circular agriculture model to the global market and spread solutions to respond to the climate crisis at this event, attended by governments, industries, and civil society representatives from 21 APEC member countries. Through this, it is expected to present the future of agriculture as a next-generation growth industry and contribute to enhancing the international status of Korean agriculture.

Aguni plans to expand its air dome business nationwide this year and launch its agricultural CDMO platform business in earnest. Having completed a 1,000-pyeong air dome in Hwaseong last September, Aguni plans to build additional air domes as agricultural production bases based on this and aims to secure large-scale contract cultivation orders. It plans to expand collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry and establish itself as an agricultural CDMO platform that supplies high-quality medicinal crops with high functional ingredient content. In addition, Aguni plans to launch a multipurpose air dome plant business that can be applied to various fields such as sports and poultry farms.

CEO Kwon Mi-jin said, “I look forward to the opportunity to exchange opinions and share various ideas with agricultural organizations and business officials from APEC member countries, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and others around the world who are concerned about sustainable agriculture,” and expressed her aspiration, “AGUNI will contribute to the spread of global circular agriculture and take the lead in establishing a sustainable agricultural ecosystem.”
