The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Oh Young-joo, hereinafter referred to as the MSS) announced on the 3rd that it had dispatched a delegation led by the Director General for Startup Policy to New Delhi, India, to meet with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Trade (DPIIT) of the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Small and Medium Enterprises Corporation of India (NSIC) and agreed to strengthen cooperation between companies of the two countries.

This delegation met with various organizations to strengthen practical cooperation between Korean and Indian SMEs, ventures, and startups, and focused on discussing ▲government-to-government policy exchanges ▲networking of startup ecosystem organizations ▲establishment of a foundation for securing excellent talent, etc.

First, the delegation met with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India, and discussed the establishment of an Indian pavilion at ‘COMEUP 2025,’ revitalizing startup exchanges between Korea and India, and expanding the participation of outstanding talent in the Grand Challenge. DPIIT is the key organization in charge of India’s ‘Startup India’ policy, and it is expected that this meeting will further strengthen the foundation for startup policy cooperation between the two governments.

In the subsequent meeting with the Small and Medium Enterprises Corporation of India, information on systems such as policy support for SMEs, financing, and technological innovation was shared, and possibilities for collaboration were explored so that Korean companies can enter the Indian market in the future and participate in Indian SME support programs. NSIC is a key organization leading the 'Make in India' policy, and is focusing on strengthening the global competitiveness of SMEs.

The delegation also visited IIT Delhi, the most prestigious engineering school in India, to inspect the operation status of the SW talent recruitment linkage project. IIT is an institution that produces globally recognized talent, and it is expected that this visit will further strengthen the foundation for securing global talent for Korean startups.

Kyung-won Cho, Director General of Startup Policy at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, “This visit to India was an opportunity to go beyond government-level diplomacy for SMEs, ventures, and startups and to establish practical connections and cooperation between the startup ecosystems of Korea and India.” He added, “We will establish an all-out cooperation system in terms of policy, infrastructure, and talent to achieve global, joint growth of startups from both countries.”
