Toyota Adopts Unity to Develop Next-Generation Human Machine Interface

Unity Technologies (NYSE: U), the world’s leading real-time 3D content creation and growth platform, announced that Toyota Motor Corporation has selected Unity to develop the Graphical User Interface (GUI) for its next-generation in-vehicle Human Machine Interface (HMI).

Toyota’s choice of Unity is a result of their confidence in the innovation potential of Unity’s real-time 3D technology, which has been developed through various platforms in the gaming industry for many years. Through this partnership, Toyota will be able to seamlessly integrate Unity’s technology into their HMI development pipeline, increasing efficiency at all design and engineering stages by minimizing rework, optimizing development processes, and simplifying data management, while also providing consumers with a stable and high-performance GUI experience.

“Toyota’s development goal is to create an innovative user experience by developing a ‘digital cockpit’ that connects the driver, the vehicle, and society,” said Takashi Imai, Chief Project Leader, Toyota Motor Corporation Digital Software Development Center. “Hundreds of software engineers are involved in the development of instrument panels, infotainment systems, and other components. While advanced 3D graphics technology has become commonplace in the automotive industry, it requires a high level of expertise and can be difficult for new engineers. This is where Unity truly brings about innovation.”

He also said, “I am very happy to see our engineers working passionately, and it is amazing that they have created new value in a short period of time. In addition, development efficiency has been greatly improved, so we can spend more time providing greater value to our customers. We will continue to work with Unity to present more attractive and innovative products.”

“We are excited to collaborate with Toyota Motor Corporation and their world-renowned team of engineers to build next-generation HMI experiences using Unity’s real-time 3D technology,” said Alex Blum, Chief Operating Officer at Unity Technologies. “As consumer expectations continue to evolve, Unity and Toyota will provide cutting-edge solutions that are seamless and intuitive to drivers.”
