The Korea Human Resources Development Institute (President Bae Geum-ju, hereinafter referred to as the Human Resources Development Institute) announced that it has completed the '2025 Key Personnel Training Program' conducted for approximately two weeks from June 30 to July 10 targeting public officials from the health ministries of six ASEAN countries, including Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
This program is part of an official development assistance (ODA) project led by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and operated by the Korea Institution of Human Resources Development, and was planned with the goal of strengthening the ASEAN region’s capacity to respond to infectious diseases. It focused on improving practical adaptability and strengthening policy-making capacity through participant-tailored education and practice-centered operation methods.
The training course established an action plan that reflected the infectious disease response tasks of each country, and provided time to share policy experiences and cases among participating countries. In addition, opportunities were provided to directly experience Korea’s infectious disease response system by visiting major domestic infectious disease response organizations such as the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency Emergency Situation Room, Catholic University of Korea Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, Osong Advanced Medical Promotion Foundation, and Pathogen Resource Bank.
“This conference laid the foundation for practical international cooperation through discussions on current issues and information exchanges between countries,” said Thai Ministry of Health Director-General Apinya Niramit Santipong. “The close guidance of experts was of great help in establishing a joint avian influenza control plan among key government agencies in the Philippines,” said Joanne Salvanera Batto, a senior researcher at the Philippines Department of Health.
The Talent Center plans to continue post-program management activities such as webinars and expert feedback to check whether participants are implementing their action plans even after the program ends. In the future, it plans to further expand cooperation with the ministries of health and infectious disease response organizations of each ASEAN country.
Director Bae Geum-ju said, “This training program focused on practical, field-oriented education and contributed to strengthening international infectious disease response capabilities,” adding, “We will continue to foster professional manpower and build a cooperative system to strengthen global health security.”
