Generative AI startup 42Maru (CEO Dong-Hwan Kim) announced on the 16th that it signed a business agreement (MOU) with Pusan National University and Pusan National University Hospital on the 15th to advance generative AI technology in the medical field and foster practical talent.
This agreement is part of the Ministry of Science and ICT's 'Industrial Convergence-Type Multimodal Generative AI Leading Talent Training Project', and aims to fully promote 'generative AI + healthcare' convergence innovation by combining FortiTumaru's commercial AI technology, Pusan National University's education and research capabilities, and Pusan National University Hospital's medical data.
In this collaboration, FortiTumaru will lead the development of an AI model that automatically generates clinical treatment charts using multimodal patient data, the advancement of explainable AI-based clinical prognosis prediction technology, and the commercialization and performance verification of generative AI solutions applicable to medical settings. It will also work together to foster practical medical AI talent through internship dispatch and recruitment of excellent researchers.
The three parties plan to jointly build an AI-based treatment support system that safely utilizes regional medical data and increases the work efficiency of medical staff based on an industry-academia cooperation system linked to medical institutions in the southeastern region.
In addition to this agreement, Dong-Hwan Kim, CEO of FortiTumaru, was invited as an expert session speaker at the 'AI BUS 2025: AI BUSAN' event held at BEXCO in Busan on July 15th and presented on the topic of 'Care Innovation in the Age of Generative AI'. In his presentation, CEO Kim emphasized that "Medical AX is the key to innovating the care paradigm in actual medical settings, such as patient-tailored medical support and automation of medical documentation beyond simple automation," and proposed the development of a Korean-style medical specialty foundation model.
FortyTwoMaru is a generative AI startup that develops and services a lightweight model LLM42 specialized in specialized industries by mitigating the hallucination phenomenon, a shortcoming of ultra-large language models, through engineering with RAG42, a search augmentation generation technology, and MRC42, an AI reading technology. It supports private mode for enterprises, so you can safely utilize ultra-large AI without worrying about internal corporate data and sensitive customer information leaks, and you can drastically reduce the costs of solution construction, learning, and serving.
FortiTumaru CEO Kim Dong-hwan said, “This agreement will serve as an opportunity to lead to field-oriented innovative cases where generative AI can be combined with medical data to solve problems in actual clinical settings,” and emphasized, “If FortiTumaru’s technological prowess and the research and medical assets of Pusan National University and Pusan National University Hospital create synergy, we will be able to quickly create trustworthy generative AI utilization cases in the medical field.”
