Edtech startup Freewillin (CEO Kwon Ki-seong) announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Yonsei University Korean Language Institute (Director Lee Seok-jae) and will begin developing a Korean language education system utilizing generative artificial intelligence (AI).
Through this agreement, the two institutions will strengthen diagnostic and supplementary learning capabilities tailored to each learner's individual level outside of regular classes. They will also jointly design AI educational algorithms that analyze learning patterns and provide personalized feedback and predictive learning guidance. Specifically, an "AI Automatic Pinpointing Diagnostic System" will be developed to help learners identify and improve their weaknesses.
This collaboration is an additional collaboration following the 'AI-based university curriculum development agreement' signed between Yonsei University headquarters and Freewillin last year, and has expanded into joint research with Yonsei University's Korean Language Institute.
Under the agreement, both parties will first begin developing an "Online Global Korean Language Course." The course will be based on the Yonsei University Korean Language Institute's three-week Korean language course textbook and will support independent supplementary study by students.
Lee Seok-jae, director of Yonsei University's Korean Language Institute, expressed his expectations, saying, "By combining our accumulated educational experience with Freewillin's technological prowess, we will be able to provide an effective AI-based educational environment for both Korean language learners and instructors."
Freewillin CEO Kwon Ki-seong said, “We expect that by combining Yonsei University’s Korean Language Institute’s content with AI technology, we will be able to simultaneously increase the accessibility and effectiveness of Korean language education,” and “Through this collaboration, we will be able to present a competitive model in the global Korean language education market.”
