Not every film is a hit, but everyone still has their favorite movie which may not have done so well at the box office. Bflix is a streaming platform in Korea full of hundreds of classic movies and other more modern titles which can be watched for free.
ZettaMedia, the company behind Bflix, launched the platform for the local market in 2016 amongst the increasing number of video-on-demand services.
While the name ‘Bflix’ may give you the impression that the movies on tap are all low budget B movies, a quick glance of the the titles and you’ll see many are quality releases which appeared in theaters, even if they weren’t exactly total hits.
Classics like ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ and films with cult status are also on offer, and are free to view — at the cost of a few ads of course. Bflix does have a premium service, but the range of free titles is bigger than you’d expect
Since the service was launched in October, movies could only be watched through the Bflix app on mobile devices, but yesterday the company announced the launch of a browser version for PCs.
Other plans for the platform include highlighting forgotten but worthwhile watches, and using algorithms and a deep learning technology to give personal recommendations for new movies. It will also create new avenues for revenue by using the technology to recognize objects in videos and target users with personalized ads.
“Starting with the release of the PC version, we will look to support TVs and grow to become an OTT (Over the top) service that can be played on multiple devices,” said Kim Wook, CEO of ZettaMedia.
