Earlier today facial recognition technology startup Virtualive released its hair and fashion AR app Hairfit.

If you’ve ever wanted see what different hair styles looked like on you, or you’re on the fence about cutting your hair, Hairfit lets you try out multiple looks right from your mobile device. After you’ve taken your photo, or chosen an image from your gallery, Hairfit will detect your face so that selected hairstyles match your head shape.

Users can scan through different styles for both men and woman, although there are currently a lot more of the latter. Hair from some celebrities and Kpop stars are also included, and switching between them is as easy as swiping the screen.

An editing feature lets you change the hair color how you please, and resize the hair in case the app hasn’t quite sized it correctly. Hairfit can also recommend a number of hairstyles for you, and you can save or share screenshots to social media easily.

The app also automatically applies motion to your photo in the form of blinking and slight head movement which can seem kind of creepy at first. While it feels somewhat like customizing a character in a game, it does give it a bit more of a realistic feel than simply a static image.

In addition to giving yourself a new look, Hairfit also includes articles and advice on hairstyle and fashion trends, as well instructions on how to dye your hair. The app is great for a laugh with friends and family, and it definitely feels like there is room for a lot more styles, and features which will no doubt be coming soon.

The app can be downloaded for both Android and iOS, but is only available in Korean so far. However, it’s no doubt overseas Hallyu fans would take interest in being able to give themselves hairstyles from their favorite stars, and I wouldn’t be surprised if an English version was just around the corner.
